Smart Meters in Consumers’ Interest, Avoid Misleading Information: Parvesh Thakur

Chamba,Jan 27, 2026 : Senior Executive Engineer of HPSEBL Chamba Parvesh Thakur clarified that under the state government’s directions, old electricity meters are being gradually replaced with smart meters across Himachal Pradesh. A large number of smart meters have already been installed in domestic, government, industrial and commercial premises.

He said the Electricity Board has noticed that misleading information and misconceptions about smart meters are being spread in some areas, leading to unnecessary opposition. Thakur stressed that smart meters are being installed strictly as per government guidelines and are completely beneficial for consumers.

According to him, smart meters ensure accurate, transparent and real-time measurement of electricity consumption, so consumers pay bills only for actual usage. He added that if any consumer has doubts regarding consumption or billing, they can approach the concerned electricity office, where complaints will be addressed seriously and meters tested if required.

Thakur also stated that all staff involved in smart meter installation are authorized HPSEBL personnel. Any obstruction in official work may invite action as per rules. He appealed to consumers to cooperate for the smooth implementation of this public welfare initiative.
