DC Calls for Local Coordination to Ensure Smooth Apple Season in Shimla District

Shimla, Jan 06, 2026 : Deputy Commissioner **Anupam Kashyap** directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to strengthen local-level coordination for the smooth implementation of the upcoming apple season. Chairing a review meeting via video conference, he said preparations must factor in issues faced during the previous season to avoid losses to orchardists.

The meeting reviewed production figures of 2025, during which over 13.66 crore apple boxes were produced, while 92,539 metric tonnes were procured under the MIS at MSP. Concerns were raised over apple wastage, improper grading under the universal carton system, overloading of cartons, burning of orchard waste, and subletting of weighing scales. The DC stressed coordination with HPMC and HIMFED to prevent losses and instructed officials to prioritise road and bridge maintenance on key apple routes. He also ordered prompt release of ex-gratia relief to families of labourers who lost their lives during the previous season.
