Dharamshala, 4 Dec 2025 — Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Sukhu-led Congress government, claiming widespread public resentment and alleging that the administration has “no achievements to showcase” after three years in office.
Addressing a BJP rally, Thakur said the government cannot name even three schemes of its own, while “dozens of welfare programmes launched by the previous BJP government have been shut down.” He added that Congress MLAs are unable to face the public as people question the discontinuation of schemes such as Himcare, Shagun, Kanyadaan, Grahini Suvidha and the Swavalamban self-employment programme.
He further accused the government of “selling out Himachal’s interests,” questioning delays in depositing funds for the Central University campus in Dharamshala despite the Centre releasing money. He also alleged irregularities in the transfer of land belonging to the Palampur University campus.
Thakur claimed that protests are erupting across the state, with people raising slogans demanding the ousting of the Sukhu government. He criticised the administration for its handling of student protests and incidents involving persons with disabilities, calling the government’s actions “insensitive and unacceptable.”
On taxation, Thakur said the government has burdened citizens with increased charges and new levies, while simultaneously taking on mounting debt. He criticised the decision to hold a celebration for the government’s three-year tenure in an area still recovering from disaster-related devastation.
Commenting on recent controversies, Thakur alleged that the Chief Minister continues to make “anti-Sanatan” remarks to please his political superiors. He said even greetings like “Radhe-Radhe” by schoolchildren have been questioned, which he described as “deeply unfortunate.”
Reiterating his party’s resolve, Thakur said the people of Himachal would deliver a strong verdict in the next Assembly elections, adding that the Congress would be “reduced to the size of an Alto car.”
