Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Friday criticised the state government over the confusion surrounding Panchayat elections, calling the situation “unfortunate and misleading.” During his visit to the Seraj Assembly constituency in Mandi, he questioned the contradiction between ministers and the Chief Minister on the restoration of roads and normalcy in the state.
Thakur said delaying Panchayat polls would severely impact the rural economy and flagship schemes like MGNREGA. He also expressed concern over HRTC pensioners still awaiting their dues even on the 21st of the month, calling it a sign of the government’s “insensitivity.”
Addressing a joint organisational meeting of Thunag and Janjheli Mandals, he urged party workers to remain united and confident ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Later, an emotional Jairam Thakur attended the annual function of the school where he studied as a child and distributed prizes to meritorious students.
