Central Aid Reaches Himachal Fully; Sukhu Government Fails to Provide Relief: Jairam

2 min read

Shimla, October 25, 2025 — Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur strongly criticized the Sukhu-led state government, accusing it of insensitivity and inaction toward disaster-affected citizens. He said that despite thousands losing their homes and livelihoods, the government has failed to provide any meaningful relief even as winter approaches.

Thakur stated that the Central Government has already released ₹5,500 crore in disaster relief over the past two and a half years, yet the Himachal government has spent less than ₹300 crore on the affected people. He added that while the Chief Minister blames the Centre, the Modi government continues to provide regular financial assistance under all norms.

He reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special package of ₹1,500 crore is a firm commitment, describing it as “Modi ki Guarantee,” which ensures that every rupee due to Himachal will reach the state. Thakur reminded that it was the Modi government that reinstated Himachal’s special state status, allowing the Centre to bear 90% of project costs, while the state contributes only 10%.

Questioning the state’s inaction, Thakur asked, “What has the Sukhu government done with the funds it has already received? Why has no disaster victim received the promised ₹7 lakh housing relief even after months?”

He also criticized the government for scapegoating HRTC drivers and conductors, saying that instead of addressing systemic mismanagement, the administration punishes lower-level employees for every issue — from broken seats to viral videos.

“The state government is wasting time on publicity while victims shiver without shelter. Relief cannot come from press statements — it must come from action,” Thakur asserted.
