Shimla, October 12 —
Former BJP State President and MP Suresh Kashyap said that under the BJP government, the Central Information Commission (CIC) received its independent office premises for the first time after 2014, whereas during the Congress regime, it operated from a rented building.
He highlighted that the BJP government made the Right to Information (RTI) system online and significantly reduced pending appeals — from 35,718 in 2019–20 to 22,666 in 2024–25. Kashyap credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in public administration.
He stated that about 17,000 appeals are resolved annually by the CIC and that the RTI compliance rate has risen from 77% during the UPA government (2007–2014) to 94% under the current regime. Similarly, the disposal rate has improved from 81.79% to 92%.
Kashyap also mentioned that the Information Commission has been actively conducting training programmes for nodal officers and CPIOs to strengthen their understanding of RTI norms and improve efficiency in information delivery.
