₹3 Lakh Aid for Sanitation Workers

Una, Sept 22 – In line with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s pro-people vision, the Himachal Pradesh government has launched the Maharishi Valmiki Kamgar Awas Yojana 2024, a welfare initiative for sanitation workers. Under the scheme, eligible sanitation workers will receive ₹3 lakh financial assistance to construct permanent houses, enabling them to move out of unsafe dwellings and live with dignity.

Eligibility criteria include Himachali domicile, Valmiki caste certificate, verified employment as a sanitation worker, annual family income below ₹2.5 lakh, and non-availment of benefits under previous housing schemes. One member per family will be eligible, with priority given to disaster-affected families and those with over 40% disability.

State SC Commission Chairman Kuldeep Dhiman has already reviewed preparations with officials to ensure effective implementation. Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal, assured that the scheme will be executed in a time-bound and transparent manner so that no eligible family is left behind.

CM Sukhu has reiterated that sanitation workers are not only the custodians of cleanliness but also silent guardians of public health, and raising their standard of living is a top government priority.
