Road Woes Threaten Apple & Vegetable Farmers, BJP Hits Out at Sukhu Govt: Rakesh

1 min read

Shimla, Sept 15 – BJP’s Chief Spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal has accused the Sukhu-led Congress government of failing to fulfill its responsibilities, alleging that the poor condition of state roads is pushing farmers and orchardists towards heavy losses. He said incessant rains have left roads in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts blocked, preventing timely transportation of apples and vegetables to mandis.

Jamwal alleged that instead of taking responsibility, the state government routinely blames the Centre. He pointed out that while National Highways under NHAI are being restored, state highways, major district roads, and link roads under the state government remain shut.

He reminded that even after the 2023 monsoon, several roads stayed blocked for months and many still await restoration. Farmers and traders, he said, are suffering while the government is busy with political appointments. He also cited the Manimahesh Yatra, where thousands of pilgrims were stranded due to state highway blockages.

Jamwal demanded immediate restoration of blocked roads so that crops reach markets on time, stressing that the Centre is extending all possible support but the state must shoulder its duties.
