Shimla, Sept 10: Himachal Pradesh Government’s adoption initiative is bringing smiles as more children are being placed with prospective parents. On Monday, Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, facilitated the adoption of two “Children of the State” at Shishu Greh, Tutikandi. One child was adopted by a couple from Uttarakhand, while the other found a family in Uttar Pradesh.
Since December 20, 2022, a total of 21 children have been successfully adopted under this effort. DC Kashyap appealed to well-off families to come forward and adopt children from Shishu Greh and Bal-Balika Ashrams, ensuring them a bright and secure future.
District Programme Officer, Mamta Paul, informed that adoption is carried out strictly as per merit and eligibility criteria under the law. Only applicants fulfilling the required norms are considered.
The process is monitored under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). Specialized Adoption Agencies in the state facilitate the legal adoption process, ensuring transparency and child welfare.
