Shimla, August 29, 2025: Around 280 students from various institutions, including PG College Nahan, GSSS Summerhill, Dayanand Public School Shimla, Government College Jukhala (Bilaspur), and Shaheed Ved Prakash GSSS Biachdi, visited the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha today to observe the House proceedings.
Before the session, the students interacted with Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania outside the Council Chamber. They asked questions about the parliamentary system, constitutional setup, the role of the Speaker, and the powers of the Cabinet, to which Pathania responded in detail.
The Speaker said it was encouraging to see the interest of students and youth in understanding parliamentary democracy, which he described as the real strength of India. He explained that Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha are the “temples of democracy” where the country’s policies and direction are shaped. He also briefed them about the law-making process, the direct election of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha members, and the composition of Himachal Pradesh’s legislature—68 MLAs, 4 Lok Sabha MPs, and 3 Rajya Sabha MPs.
Emphasizing that “today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” Pathania urged students to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters, whose struggle gave India its independence and Constitution. He also invited them to witness the day’s Assembly proceedings.
Later, Pathania left for Chamba at 2:45 PM to review the damages caused by heavy rains and guide relief and rescue operations on the ground. He will return to Shimla on September 1 to preside over the Assembly session scheduled at 2:00 PM.
