Shimla, August 27 – Responding to the all-India call of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the Himachal Pradesh State Committee staged a protest and burnt copies of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Learning Outcomes-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) draft at university premises.
State Secretary Sunny Sekta strongly opposed the draft, terming it “primitive and unscientific.” He criticized the UGC for allowing very limited time for feedback and pointed out that the Chemistry LOCF begins with Saraswati Vandana, while Commerce courses suggest teaching Kautilya’s Arthashastra. He further noted that the reading list for “Indian Freedom Struggle” includes V.D. Savarkar’s The Indian War of Independence, calling it an attempt to push the RSS agenda through education.
Quoting Article 51(A)(h) of the Constitution, Sekta said the move undermines scientific temper and promotes saffronization and privatization of education under the National Education Policy (NEP). State Vice President Ritesh urged students to unite against such efforts, warning that youth are being misled away from the real history of the freedom struggle.
SFI also criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for suppressing student voices by continuing the ban on SCA elections and demanded their immediate restoration.
