Shimla, August 18, 2025

Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh inspected the damaged Thali bridge in Sunni, which was severely impacted by heavy rains. He assured residents that the state government will construct a new double-lane bridge from Gharat Nala to Ghanghar to ensure smooth connectivity between Shimla and Mandi. The Public Works Department has been directed to identify the site and prepare an estimate for the project.

Singh highlighted that due to the dam, the water level rises every year, weakening the Thali bridge. To ensure safe and permanent connectivity, support from SJVNL and NTPC will also be sought.

A structural audit of the Thali bridge has been ordered, and a committee will assess whether pedestrian movement can be permitted until the new bridge is constructed.

The minister also visited the flood-affected ITI campus, directing immediate drainage measures and creation of a dumping site to prevent future flooding. He further said that a high-level meeting with stakeholders, including SJVNL and NTPC, will be held this week to draft a comprehensive plan for dam-affected Sunni region.

During his tour, Singh also inspected the damaged Shimla–Karsog road near Tattapani selfie point and instructed officials to restore temporary connectivity for small vehicles.
