Shimla, August 17 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Himachal Pradesh State Committee has expressed grave concern over the devastation caused by incessant rains across the state, resulting in heavy loss of life and property. According to official figures, 261 people have lost their lives, 38 remain missing, and damages worth over ₹2,144 crore have been reported. Nearly 2,385 houses have been damaged, out of which 566 were completely destroyed, along with 360 shops and 2,174 cowsheds. Additionally, 1,626 livestock and 25,755 poultry birds have perished.

The CPIM urged the state government to immediately convene an all-party meeting to ensure coordinated relief efforts, while also demanding the Centre declare the calamity a National Disaster and release at least ₹3,000 crore as immediate relief assistance.

The party further highlighted disruptions in essential services such as water supply, roads, electricity, and healthcare in several districts including Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Kangra, Sirmaur, Una, and Chamba. Farmers have also been severely hit as apple and other crops are unable to reach markets due to damaged roads.

CPIM called for urgent measures including adequate compensation to affected families, rehabilitation of displaced people, and immediate restoration of basic services.
