1 min read

Shimla, August 8: The Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association submitted a memorandum to Hon’ble Governor and Chancellor of HPU, highlighting the worsening financial situation of the university. The delegation, led by Association President along with Prof. Chandramohan, Prof. Shivkumar Dogra, Dr. Joginder Saklani, Dr. Ramlal, and Dr. Anjali, sought the Governor’s intervention against the State Government’s delayed grant release.

The members alleged step-motherly treatment by the State Government towards the university, citing neglect of higher education standards. The protest entered its 8th day today with a massive demonstration outside the Vice Chancellor’s office. Members of the Non-Teaching Welfare Association also joined the protest.

Dr. Nitin Vyas informed that after the grant-related file was signed last night, salaries were credited to employees by afternoon. However, the agitation will continue until the entire annual grant is deposited in the university account. He also announced plans to form a united platform to safeguard the rights of the university.

Despite a requirement of ₹240 crore annually for salaries and pensions, the government has only provided ₹152 crore, forcing the university to bear a ₹100 crore deficit through its own resources. The association has demanded strict action against those responsible for deliberate delays.
