US Tariff Hike Triggers Sharp Response from Himachal Minister Rajesh Dharmani 1 min read

Shimla, Aug 01, 2025:
Himachal Pradesh Technical Education and Urban Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani has slammed the 25% import tariff imposed by the United States on Indian goods, calling it a direct blow to India’s economic dignity and global reputation. He strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, suggesting it has failed to protect India’s international standing.

Dharmani said the Modi-Trump friendship, once touted as a diplomatic strength, is now turning into a source of national embarrassment, as seen in the recent deportation of Indian citizens from the US without due process or dignity. He called it a humanitarian failure and a serious setback to India’s global image.

Expressing concern over the impact on trade, he warned the US tariffs would hurt Indian exports and worsen the trade deficit, further weakening an already fragile economy. He accused the BJP-led central government of neglecting the robust diplomatic frameworks built by previous governments in favor of shallow optics and electoral slogans.

Citing Operation Sindoor, Dharmani highlighted India’s diminishing international support, claiming that during the crisis, major global powers remained neutral while Pakistan gained diplomatic backing, marking a diplomatic failure for India.

He urged the Centre to rise above politics in matters of foreign policy, saying national interest should supersede election-centric decisions. He also criticized the government’s handling of All-Party Delegations, saying participation should be inclusive, not just promotional.
