CM Sukhu Announces Mandatory Dope Test in Police Recruitment to Curb Chitta Menace

1 min read

Shimla, July 31 – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a major crackdown on drug abuse, specifically targeting the rising menace of ‘Chitta’ (heroin). Addressing the media in Shimla, the CM said that a dope test—primarily to detect heroin use—will now be mandatory at the very first stage of the police recruitment process.

To dismantle the drug network, the government will deploy special teams comprising a police constable, ASHA worker, and Panchayat secretary in every cluster of 5–6 panchayats. The initiative will later expand to cover cannabis abuse.

Highlighting strong legal action, Sukhu revealed that the state has invoked the PIT-NDPS Act for the first time to detain suspected repeat drug offenders. Plans are also underway to seize properties earned through drug trafficking.

Government employees involved in drug use or smuggling will also face strict penalties. The CM urged society to actively support this movement to build a drug-free Himachal and ensure a healthier future for the youth.
