District-level Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorated in Shimla

Shimla, July 26 — A district-level function was held at Bachat Bhawan, Shimla, to mark the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap paid floral tributes to the martyrs and announced that ex-servicemen who participated in the war will share their stories in adopted schools to instill patriotism in students.
Seven war veterans from Shimla district were felicitated, including Subedar Major Diwakar Dutt Sharma, Subedar Major Ram Lal Sharma, Subedar Ved Prakash Sharma, Havaldar Ram Lal, and Nayaks Praveen and Jai Singh, all from various units of the JAK Rifles.
SSP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi emphasised the role of soldiers in keeping the nation safe. ADC Abhishek Verma urged parents to foster patriotism among children. ADM Jyoti Rana highlighted the need to honour soldiers’ families.
Veterans shared powerful recollections of the war, describing extreme weather, surprise attacks, and sacrifices made during battle. Cultural tributes and patriotic songs added emotional depth to the event.
