Shimla, July 3 — Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, chairing the District Level Advisory Committee meeting under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, directed that only fresh food be used in mid-day meals in schools. He also ordered that drinking water in schools must be boiled before use. Strict action will be taken against any school found violating food safety norms.
The DC instructed field staff to regularly collect food samples from schools to ensure quality. He also emphasized routine sampling of food items from hotels and restaurants across the district to maintain hygiene standards.

In the Shimla Municipal Corporation area alone, 103 registrations and 12 licenses were granted. The mobile food testing lab collected 171 samples of milk and dairy products—131 from municipal areas and 40 from other parts of the district. Additionally, mid-day meal samples were collected from 9 schools, along with food samples from shops near schools and various institutional canteens like PWD headquarters, SJVNL Shanan, SBI Kasumpti, and HIPPA Canteen.
