Nahan, June 28: As the southwest monsoon intensifies in Himachal Pradesh, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sirmaur, Priyanka Verma has issued a strong advisory to residents and tourists. Highlighting the district’s high sensitivity to natural disasters like landslides and flash floods, she urged citizens to stay away from rivers, streams, and drains during the rainy season.

The DC has warned against bathing, washing clothes, or undertaking any activity near water bodies to avoid drowning incidents. She also encouraged people to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly or landslide-prone areas during heavy rainfall and to stay updated using weather apps like *Sachet* and *Damini*.

Tourists visiting the region have been specifically advised to steer clear of high-risk zones such as rivers, mountain peaks, and landslide-prone areas, and to follow local administration guidelines at all times.

Deputy Commissioner has also directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to identify and relocate individuals living in temporary shelters or illegal structures near rivers and flood-prone areas.

In case of any emergency, citizens are requested to immediately contact the Disaster Management Cell through toll-free helpline numbers 1077 or 112. The DC also called on village panchayats and educational institutions to intensify awareness campaigns to ensure public safety during the monsoon.
