In a landmark advancement for Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare sector, AIIMS Bilaspur has successfully conducted its first robotic knee replacement surgery — the first of its kind in any government hospital in the state. The groundbreaking procedure was performed on an elderly woman suffering from severe arthritis and knee deformities, restoring her mobility and quality of life through precision surgical intervention.

The surgery was led by a team of expert doctors including Dr. Ranjit Chaudhary, Dr. Gaurav Kumar Sharma, Dr. Amit Salaria, and Dr. Devendra, with anaesthesia support by Dr. Vijayalakshmi Shivapura and nursing assistance headed by Bhajan Lal.

Dr. Ranjit Chaudhary stated that AIIMS Bilaspur is now fully equipped to offer world-class orthopedic care, including complex spine surgeries and sports injury treatments. The addition of robotic technology has significantly enhanced their capabilities. Dr. Gaurav Sharma highlighted that this development is a boon for thousands of patients in the state, eliminating the need to travel elsewhere for advanced robotic procedures.

What is Robotic Technology in Surgery?
Robotic systems aid surgeons in achieving real-time balancing and micro-level joint alignment, resulting in fewer complications, superior outcomes, and faster recovery than conventional methods.
