HPU Faculty Welfare Association Questions Admin Over Lack of Canteen Facility on Campus

Shimla, 14 May 2025 — The Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association (HPUTWA) held a meeting with its office bearers to address growing concerns regarding the absence of a proper dining facility for students, faculty, and staff for the past 16 months on campus.
Despite being one of the oldest and premier universities in the state, Himachal Pradesh University currently has no functional restaurant or canteen. Members highlighted that the Kamdhenu outlet, which once served quality meals to the university community, had to vacate due to an abrupt hike in rent—from ₹47,000 to nearly ₹1,00,000 per month—by the university administration.
Since then, no alternative food outlet has been introduced, and the well-constructed infrastructure built for Kamdhenu now lies abandoned, causing both financial and functional loss to the institution. The association claimed that the university has already lost nearly ₹8 lakh in revenue during this 16-month vacancy.
In the midst of a financial crisis, leaving key resources idle was termed by HPUTWA as administrative mismanagement. The association has demanded the immediate revival of a quality food joint on campus to benefit the thousands of students, faculty, and staff.
Present at the meeting were Vice President Dr. Yograj, General Secretary Dr. Ankush, Joint Secretary Dr. Anjali, Treasurer Dr. Ram, and members Dr. Gaurav and Dr. Anil.
