Congress Betrayed Himachal by Imposing Heavy Taxes: BJP State Chief Rajeev Bindal

1 min read

Nahan, May 12 — BJP Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of burdening the public with back-breaking taxes since coming to power. During a series of party meetings in Sirmaur district, Bindal alleged that the Sukhu government has collected over ₹4,000 crore by increasing diesel tax by ₹7.50 per litre and drastically hiking water, electricity, and essential goods prices.

He criticized the government for withdrawing the 125 units of free electricity benefit and imposing multiple taxes on power consumption. “They promised free electricity but instead burdened people with rising bills,” said Bindal. He further claimed that urban water tariffs have increased by 500%, and food ration prices have gone up significantly — flour by ₹3, rice by ₹4.50, and mustard oil by over ₹50.

Highlighting rural distress, he condemned the withdrawal of water subsidies and the hike in court and stamp duties by up to 500%. The closure of HRTC bus routes, especially in remote areas, and the removal of women’s travel subsidies were also targeted.

Bindal termed these policies as anti-poor and anti-development, accusing the Congress of making false promises during the 2022 elections while now “robbing people even during a time of national security crisis.”
