Shimla/ New Delhi, May 10, 2025 — The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an official advisory to all media channels, directing them to refrain from using Civil Defence Air Raid Siren sounds in their regular broadcasts or entertainment content. This directive, issued under Section 3(1)(w)(i) of the Civil Defence Act, 1968, emphasizes that the use of these sounds must be strictly limited to community awareness and educational initiatives.
Authorities have warned that the routine use of air raid sirens in non-essential programming could desensitize the public and lead to confusion during real emergencies. The advisory underlines the critical need to maintain the seriousness and impact of sirens during actual air raid scenarios. Media outlets have been urged to cooperate in strengthening national preparedness and to ensure the public’s alertness remains uncompromised.
