HPNLU Rotaract Club Visits Model Central Jail, Kanda for Educational Exposure

The Rotaract Club of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice- Chancellor, HPNLU, organized an educational visit to the Model Central Jail, Kanda, Shimla on Tuesday, 28th April 2025. The objective of this visit was to provide students with firsthand exposure to the functioning of the Indian prison system and to foster a comprehensive understanding of prison administration, correctional facilities, and rehabilitation initiatives in India.
During the visit, students were introduced to various dimensions of prison administration. They observed the security protocols, daily operational procedures, vocational and skill development programs for inmates, and efforts being undertaken for the reformation and reintegration of prisoners into society. The jail authorities shared detailed insights into modern correctional strategies, including educational initiatives, psychological counselling, and job-oriented training aimed at rehabilitation.
The prison officials also engaged in an interactive session with the students, addressing queries related to prison law, inmate rights, infrastructural challenges, and the evolving role of correctional institutions within the broader framework of the criminal justice system.
This educational exposure served as an invaluable learning experience for the members of the Rotaract Club. It offered them a pragmatic perspective on legal and administrative challenges in the realm of incarceration, supplementing their academic knowledge with real-world insights. The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Hari Chand, Club Coordinator, and members of the Rotaract Club.
