Banks Should Prioritize Education Loans: DC Anupam Kashyap

Shimla, April 25 – The District-Level Review and Bank Advisory Committee meeting of leading banks in Shimla was held today at the Savings Hall of the DC office, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. He directed all banks to give priority to sanctioning education loans, ensuring students receive timely financial support.

The DC emphasized the importance of disseminating information about the Himachal Pradesh government’s flagship ‘Mukhyamantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana’ during financial literacy camps. He also called on banks to spread awareness about financial fraud and focus on delivering the benefits of government schemes to the underprivileged through proactive outreach.

The meeting revealed a rise in the district’s credit-deposit ratio from 41.42% to 42.57%. A 2.96% increase in education loans was noted, alongside 5.80% growth in MSME loans. However, housing loans saw a decline of 0.73%.

Under the SHG scheme, 597 groups were extended financial assistance amounting to Rs 17.08 crore. A total of 729 financial literacy camps were held in rural areas. Also, 698 individuals were trained in various entrepreneurial skills with 689 of them being women.

For FY 2025-26, a target of Rs 10,003.57 crore has been set for loan disbursement in Shimla district, with Rs 60 crore earmarked for education loans alone.
