Rishikesh, April 24, 2025: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has achieved a landmark milestone with the successful synchronization of the first unit (250 MW) of the country’s first 1000 MW Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) at Tehri in Pump Condenser Mode. The synchronization to the national grid was carried out on April 23, 2025, marking a major leap in India’s renewable energy journey.

Chairman and Managing Director Sh. R.K. Vishnoi congratulated the entire Team PSP for their dedication and innovation. He stated that the Tehri Hydro Power Complex, now nearing full operationalization with a total capacity of 2400 MW, will serve as a cornerstone of India’s energy transition, providing crucial support to grid stability and peaking power during high demand.

The synchronized unit operated satisfactorily, consuming approx. 4 MW and 13.6 Mvar for 10 minutes—an indicator of the project’s engineering precision and preparedness.

Director (Personnel) Sh. Shallinder Singh hailed the accomplishment as a significant chapter in India’s clean energy movement, while Director (Technical) Sh. Bhupender Gupta emphasized the technological excellence and national significance of the plant. Director (Finance) Sh.
