CM Should Stop Autocratic Decisions in Electricity Board: Jairam Thakur

Shimla, Feb 11: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has accused the government of making arbitrary decisions regarding the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board. He criticized CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for continuously targeting the board and reducing job opportunities under the guise of “rationalization.”
Thakur alleged that since coming to power, the government first attempted to uncover scams in the board but failed. Now, it is eliminating posts and removing employees. He claimed that 51 key positions were abolished, 81 outsourced employees were terminated, and around 1.7 lakh vacant government posts were scrapped across departments. Recently, 700 posts in the electricity board were also removed.
Government Policies Hurting Power Sector
Thakur further stated that instead of strengthening the electricity board, the government is increasing electricity prices, burdening the public, and laying off employees. He accused the government of favoring private hydropower companies at the expense of state revenue.
The BJP has previously highlighted these issues through a report submitted to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. Thakur urged the CM to focus on boosting revenue through alternative means rather than cutting jobs and imposing taxes on the people.
