Solan, February 12
Shoolini University reaffirmed its commitment to scientific excellence by celebrating the legacy of Charles Darwin with an engaging and thought-provoking event.
The event was hosted by Dr. Lokender Kumar, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, who delivered an inspiring introductory speech, demonstrating his remarkable growth in public speaking and leadership.
A captivating video on Darwin, curated by Prof. J M Julkha, held the audience spellbound. The documentary, featuring insights into Darwin’s education, travels, and revolutionary theories, included authentic excerpts from BBC and the British Council. Following the screening, Prof. Julkha emphasised the significance of natural selection, stating, “Nothing in biology makes sense without natural selection.” He also acknowledged Shoolini University’s steadfast support in facilitating such educational initiatives.
Shoolini University Chancellor, Prof. Prem Kumar Khosla, recounted Darwin’s immense contributions to scientific thought and shared a lesser-known story of Darwin’s wife, who supported his work despite prevailing skepticism. Drawing parallels between Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, he underscored the famous scientific race to publish theories on evolution. He also made a fascinating observation on Indian mythology, highlighting how ancient texts hinted at evolutionary concepts long before they were formally studied. Tea and snacks were also distributed to the faculty staff and students present there.
