Anurag Thakur Accuses Congress Govt of Failing to Curb Drug Menace in Himachal

Una, Feb 12: BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged that drug trafficking has increased under the Congress rule in Himachal Pradesh, with the spread of ‘chitta’ (synthetic drugs) becoming a major concern. He criticized the state government for failing to take concrete action against drug abuse, which is severely affecting the youth.
Thakur claimed that the drug network has infiltrated even law enforcement, with police personnel and political leaders coming under scrutiny. The STF recently raided several locations, including residences of police officers and suspected traffickers, uncovering alleged links between politicians and the drug trade.
Referring to a recent STF raid at the residence of a Congress-backed former municipal chairperson in Santokhgarh, Thakur noted that several local Congress workers resigned in protest, sending their resignation letters to state Congress president Pratibha Singh. He said this resignation wave indicates a political nexus with drug operations.
Highlighting administrative failures, Thakur stated that despite CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s orders to intensify the crackdown on ‘chitta,’ the Mandi police are not taking it seriously. He pointed out staff shortages in key police stations, including the Balh police station, which currently has no in-charge, and vacant positions in Mandi city’s urban police post and Sadar police station.
