Jairam Thakur Slams Sukhvinder Govt Over High Water Bills

Mandi, January 29, 2025: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has criticized the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government, accusing it of burdening the public with excessive water bills. He stated that residents across the state are facing erratic water billing, with some areas witnessing an unjustified surge of up to ₹1,000.

Citing examples from Joginder Nagar and Theog, he alleged that people are being billed for non-existent water connections. He also pointed out that the government had imposed a ₹100 monthly charge per water connection, reversing the free water schem introduced during his tenure.

Jairam Thakur warned that if the government does not rectify the water billing anomalies, the BJP will launch a state-wide agitation. He also accused the Congress government of using public utilities as a means of revenue generation to compensate for its administrative failures.
