The Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association (HPUTWA) has expressed its discontent over some employee unions supporting the recently proposed Anti-Contract Bill. In a press release, Dr. Nitin Vyas condemned the support, labeling it unfortunate. He pointed out that some unions, driven by political interests or a desire to please government officials, were undermining the interests of employees. The bill threatens to end the career experiences of college teachers, many of whom pass exams conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, work as contractual lecturers for 2-8 years, and then become permanent. HPUTWA argued that the bill would demoralize thousands of teachers who have worked hard for regularization. The association also criticized HPU Teachers’ Association (HPUTA) for supporting policies against the welfare of teachers.
