Dharamshala, 21 December 2024: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, criticized the state government under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for closing over 2,000 institutions, including more than 1,000 schools. Thakur described this as a record-breaking action, but claimed it was detrimental to the state’s development.
Speaking to the media, Thakur condemned the government’s decision to shut down schools with as few as 10-25 students, arguing that such actions were destroying the state’s education system, which is essential for social and national progress. He also accused the Chief Minister of misleading the public by claiming that closures were made based on a “need-based assessment,” pointing out that these closures began the day after Sukhu took office, without any proper evaluation.
Thakur further criticized the government’s approach to governance, accusing CM Sukhu of focusing on political revenge rather than addressing public needs, citing the closure and reopening of the Jal Shakti division in Sukhu’s constituency as an example.
Thakur called for a shift in government priorities, urging the CM to stop using the assembly as a platform for “falsehoods” and focus on the state’s real needs.
