Shimla, December 18, 2024: Fortis Hospital Mohali recently provided a new lease of life to a 73-year-old man with an enlarged prostate (BPH) and damaged kidneys through Water Vapor Therapy (Rezūm). This minimally invasive, painless procedure requires no anesthesia or hospital stay and offers long-term outcomes comparable to traditional surgeries.

The patient, a high-risk case with a history of stroke, heart disease, and blood-thinning medication, had been turned away by multiple hospitals before approaching Dr. Rohit Dadhwal, Consultant in Urology, Andrology, and Robotic Surgery at Fortis Mohali.

The Rezūm procedure involves injecting water vapors into the prostate tissue using a specialized device, which shrinks the prostate over time. Conducted under local anesthesia, the five-minute procedure causes no bleeding or pain, and the patient is discharged within an hour.

Dr. Dadhwal noted the therapy’s suitability for older patients with comorbidities and young patients wishing to preserve fertility, as it avoids the sexual dysfunction risks associated with traditional methods like TURP or Holep.

Post-treatment, the patient has fully recovered and is leading a normal life.
