Shoolini University Hosts Astronomy Workshop and Sun-Watching Event at Science Museum, Shoghi

Solan, December 4: Shoolini University, in partnership with HIMCOSTE and the Indian Planetary Society (IPS), Mumbai, organized an immersive Astronomy Workshop and Sun-watching event at the Science Museum, Anandpur, Shoghi, Shimla. The workshop, led by Prof. S.S. Chandel, Vice President of IPS and Director of the Centre of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology at Shoolini University, aimed to ignite curiosity about the cosmos.
Renowned UK-based astronomy educator Sam Gibbs captivated attendees with solar observations through an 80mm Sky-Watcher refractor telescope equipped with a Quark Daystar Hydrogen Alpha filter. Participants marveled at sunspots and solar filaments, with solar images captured using advanced CCD cameras and smartphones.
Prof. Ashish Khosla, President of Innovation at Shoolini University, highlighted the role of astronomy in fostering scientific careers during his inaugural address. He announced plans for further collaborations with HIMCOSTE, IPS, and global experts to expand astronomy education. Prof. Chandel also shared the vision behind the upcoming planetarium at the Science Museum, acknowledging Dr. J.J. Rawal’s technical expertise in its development.
The event attracted students and faculty from Government College, Shimla, offering them hands-on exposure to astronomy and science exhibits.
