Migrant Workers Must Register at Police Stations: District Magistrate Shimla

Shimla, December 2, 2024 – District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has issued a directive under the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, mandating that all migrant workers in Shimla district must register their identity at the local police station before engaging in any informal work or contractual labor. Employers, contractors, and traders are prohibited from employing unregistered migrant workers.

Each migrant worker must provide their details along with a passport-sized photograph to the respective Station House Officer (SHO). Similarly, individuals seeking self-employment or informal business must also report to the local police station before starting any work.

Violations by either migrant workers or their employers will result in punitive action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code, 2023.

This order is effective immediately and will remain in force for the next two months.
