Matri Shakti Insurance Scheme: Lifeline for BPL Families in Himachal Pradesh
1 min readHamirpur, December 1, 2024 – The Matri Shakti Insurance Scheme, initiated by the Himachal Pradesh government, serves as a crucial support system for women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. In cases of accidental death, such as drowning, animal bites, or complications during surgery or childbirth, the scheme provides financial relief of up to ₹2 lakh. Additionally, if a woman becomes disabled or loses her husband, assistance of ₹1 lakh is offered under the scheme.
Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh highlighted that the government bears the entire premium cost for the insurance, ensuring free coverage for eligible women aged 10 to 75 years. Even if the family has received aid under the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Relief Rules-2012, they are still eligible for benefits under this scheme.
The application process is simple: the affected family must submit an FIR and post-mortem report (in case of death) or a medical certificate (in case of disability) to the Block Development Officer (BDO). For claims related to a spouse’s death, a death certificate issued by the Gram Panchayat and verified by the BDO is required.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all Panchayati Raj representatives and information departments to raise awareness about this scheme to ensure its benefits reach all deserving families.
