Dr. Uday Sharma joins as New Head of Soil Science Department at Nauni

Dr. Uday Sharma has assumed the duties as the Head of the Department of Soil Science and Water Management at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. A proud alumnus of the university, Dr. Sharma brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.

Beginning his career as an Assistant Scientist (Soils) at the Regional Horticultural Research Station in Mashobra, Dr. Sharma focused on soil fertility and plant nutrition, particularly in apple cultivation. He served as a Scientist and Programme Coordinator at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chamba, from 2008 to 2012, before taking on various roles at the main campus and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kandaghat, Solan. Notably, he established soil testing facilities at Mashobra and Kandaghat, as well as a state-of-the-art Advanced Soil and Leaf Analysis Laboratory at the university’s main campus. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Sharma has been involved in teaching, research and extension services, serving as Principal Investigator for seven externally funded projects and co-Principal Investigator for ten others.

Upon assuming his duties as Head of Department, Dr. Sharma outlined his priorities, emphasizing a commitment to developing alternatives to chemical inputs that adversely affect soil health. He aims to promote resource conservation technologies for soil and water conservation, ensuring efficient management of these vital resources. Dr. Sharma reassured farmers of his dedication to providing top-notch services and consultations for soil and leaf analysis.
