BJP Condemns Hike in Electricity and Water Rates in Himachal
1 min readShimla: The BJP has strongly criticized the Sukhu government for increasing electricity and water rates, accusing it of burdening the public instead of fulfilling its responsibilities. BJP spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal, along with party representatives from Kangra, stated that the government is unfairly imposing costs on the people, particularly targeting the rural population, which constitutes 80% of the state’s residents.
Jamwal emphasized that the government is shifting its expenses onto the public and labeled its actions as unjust, particularly criticizing the new water bills imposed on those who depend on the MGNREGA wage scheme. The BJP argued that instead of providing relief during inflationary times, the Sukhu government is continuously placing financial burdens on citizens for the comfort of its allies.
The spokesperson highlighted that while the Congress promised 300 units of free electricity, it has halted the 125 units previously offered by the Jairam government and has increased electricity rates. The BJP criticized the government’s plans to impose taxes on free water supply and implement water metering in rural areas.
They expressed concern that the government’s anti-people policies have led to widespread public discontent, with protests visible since its formation. The BJP predicts that the Congress would struggle to secure even double digits in upcoming elections.
