Lalit-Nishpadan Kala Awards Announced for Year 2017-18
4 min readShimla, Feb. 10 – HP Language Arts and Culture Academy Shimla has announced Lalit Kala (fine Art) and Nishpadan Kala (Performing Art) Awards for the year 2017-18. These awards were in compliance with a panel of the selection committee and approved by the Chief Minister who is Chairman of the Language Art and Culture Academy and comprising of the Executive Council.
Education and Language Art and Culture Minister Govind Singh Thakur said that Academy had started various schemes to encourage the artist and literary fraternity in the state. He said that the state government had enhanced the grant of the academy and also introduced various new schemes in the field of preservation, documentation, and publication of traditional and contemporary arts cultural languages and literature of Himachal Pradesh.
Lalit Kala Award for the year 2017 is awarded to Dr. Nand Lal Thakur in painting and Khimi Ram was awarded for the year 2018 in Lalit Kala Award for traditional sculpture.
The performing Art award for the year 2017 will be given to Sanjay Sood and for the year 2018, the Award will be given to S.D. Kashyap.
Sanjay Sood has played a stellar role in theatre and as a drama director. He has played a lead role in plays like Agra Bazar, Khamosh, Adalat Jari Hai, Godan, Holi, Aashaad ka Ek Din, Bari, Raja Ka Baja, Saiyan Bhai Kotwal, Khadiya ka Ghera, Maarich, Samvad, Elder Son, Panchi Aise late hai and has further acted in 35 dramas playing different roles.
In drama direction, Sanjay Sood has directed Rana Nagri, Bahut Bada Sawal, Samrath ko Nahi dosh Gosain, Paperweight, Bade Bhai Sahab, Mock Doctor are some exemplary plays.
Sanjay Sood has acted and directed famous stories like Sadak Manovrity, Doctor ki Fees, Sankraman (Phir Yad Aaya Papa), Gulki Banno, Idgah, Nirash Pidi, Gulli Danda, and Dal-Dal. He has also played a father figure in various theatre roles to budding local artists also.
He has also played an important role in Aakashwani Shimla and has also attained the national level first prize in Radio plays. He has also rendered his appreciable services in Doordarshan, Shimla, and Delhi and has also worked in various telefilms.
He has furthered the cause of theatre through documentaries and editorials in various magazines and newspapers.
Dr. Nand Lal Thakur is a renowned Lalit Kala artist and also PHD in Visual Arts. Dr. Nand Lal is an exponent of Pahari painting and modern painting. He has mastered various spheres of Lalit Kala Academy.
Dr. Nand Lal Thakur has also held exhibitions in Jahangir Art Gallary, Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Magti Club Tavilici Georgia.
Dr. Nand Lal has worked with many organizations regarding Art, Seminars, workshops, exhibitions. He has given presentations in various states of the country.
Presently, Dr. Nand Lal Thakur is representing Himachal as a member of the National Lalit Kala Academy, and this year he has been chosen as vice-president of Lalit Kala Academy, Delhi.
Dr. Nand Lal Thakur is organizing painting exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and virtual webinars in various parts of the country and encouraging budding artists.
S.D. Kashyap is a renowned singer, music director of the state. He left the government job in 1970 to make a name in the field of music composer and director in the film industry in Mumbai.
Later he had set up his base in HP and started the studio in district Mandi at Sakroh and then at Panarsa. He is the pioneer in the state of cassettes and CD’s. he played a pivotal role in boosting Folk music in the hill state. He played the role of music director in the Doordarshan serial Ajnabi, Usool as well.
SD Kashyap has worked with renowned singers Asha Bhonsle, Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadekar, Mohammd Ajij, Vinod Rathor. He was the trailblazer in the first pahari album sound of mountains.
In 2001, he set up a digital studio at Panarsa which is still functioning till yet.
Award for the traditional sculpture will be given to Khimi Ram in the field of traditional metalwork having Mukhota various traditional music instruments and other instruments used during rituals are also made by Khimi Ram. He had spread this art in various parts of the state as well as other places of the country. He is also encouraging the budding young artists in this field.
The Awards carries a cash award of Rs. 51,000 memento, and certificate. For the year, 2019 the Academy has invited applications for the coveted list and in this sphere of activity Literary Award, Art Award, Shikhar Award (Summit Award), Literary Award, Voluntary Organization Award, and Chamba Rumal and Pahari miniature painting will also be given.
