Shimla to Promote Indian Classical Arts Among Youth

Shimla, 2 September 2024: A meeting of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) was organized at St. Thomas School in Shimla, presided over by Siddharth Banerjee. The main objective of the meeting was to foster a deeper appreciation of Indian classical music, dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts, and the intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage among the youth. The initiative also aims to engage young individuals who may be struggling with substance abuse or seeking direction in life through these enriching activities.

During the meeting, the school’s principal, Vidhupriya Chakravarty, was tasked with the responsibility of raising awareness among Shimla’s youth and school students about SPIC MACAY’s activities. This responsibility was entrusted to her by SPIC MACAY founder, Padma Shri Dr. Kiran Seth, during a meeting held at Kalibari, Shimla.

The SPIC MACAY meetings at St. Thomas School will be held every Saturday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM to discuss and organize future activities effectively. Participants in the meeting included Principal Vidhupriya Chakravarty, Purnima, Hitesh, Tarun, Madhu, Divya, Ajay, Manpreet, Vineet, and Shagun Sood, among others.

SPIC MACAY’s founder and members also met with the Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, and the Honorable Chief Minister, Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to discuss the organization’s efforts.
