Shimla, 1 September 2024: Shri Sankat Mochan Temple in Shimla district has introduced the distribution of Bhandara (community meal) on eco-friendly plates made from Tor leaves. This initiative began on Sunday, and devotees have expressed great enthusiasm for the new arrangement.

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap shared that this is the second temple in the city to adopt this eco-friendly practice. The task of producing these plates has been assigned to the Saksham Cluster Level Federation, Basantpur, operating under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Sunni block.

He further mentioned that the district administration plans to extend this practice to all temples in the district. The initiative started on 14th July 2024 at Taradevi Temple and has now been implemented at Sankat Mochan Temple. The next phase will see the introduction of these plates at Jakhu Temple.

Sankat Mochan Temple is being supplied with 4,000 such plates by the Saksham Federation. This effort not only aims to promote rural economy but also to create employment opportunities for self-help groups, reflecting the district administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
