BJP Welcomes Modi Government’s Decision to Implement Unified Pension Scheme
2 min readIn a significant move, Suresh Kashyap, former BJP state president and MP, has lauded the Modi government’s decision to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for government employees. Kashyap expressed pride in the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing the concerns of government employees and establishing the Dr. Rangarajan Committee to review and recommend this significant change. The decision reflects the government’s careful and thoughtful approach to governance.
Kashyap criticized the opposition, particularly Rahul Gandhi, for what he called “chit politics,” claiming that the Congress party lacks a serious and mature approach to governance. He emphasized that running a country requires careful consideration and not temporary decisions made for electoral gains.
The Somnathan Committee’s recommendations, now approved by the Modi cabinet, ensure that 23 lakh government employees will receive an assured pension of 50% of their last drawn salary. This decision is seen as a significant welfare measure for both current and retired government employees.
Under the new scheme, employees with 25 years of service will receive 50% of their last month’s salary as a pension. For those with less than 25 years of service, the pension will be proportionate to their years of service. In cases where the service period is 10 years, a minimum pension of ₹10,000 will be provided. Furthermore, in the event of an employee’s death, 60% of the pension amount will be provided to their family as a family pension.
Kashyap highlighted that this decision showcases the Modi government’s commitment to welfare and a careful approach to financial policies. The government’s contribution to the New Pension Scheme (NPS) will also increase from 14% to 18.5%, further supporting government employees. Kashyap concluded by reiterating the Modi government’s dedication to making decisions in the public interest, ensuring that government employees are duly respected and their contributions acknowledged.
