In celebration of the birth anniversary of Satyanand Stokes, the Satya Nand Stokes Library at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni, paid tribute to the visionary social reformer, freedom fighter and pioneer of apple cultivation in Himachal Pradesh.
Narender Kumar, university’s Registrar, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, followed by floral tributes to Satyanand Stokes. University Librarian Dr. HP Sankhyan welcomed the Chief Guest and presented an insightful overview of Stokes’ life and contributions. Dean Student Welfare Dr. K.K. Raina also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the evolving role of libraries within academic institutions.
In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted Stokes’ remarkable journey—from his American roots to his deep integration into the local culture and his impactful introduction of apple varieties that spurred economic growth in the region. He underscored the critical role of libraries in academic settings and the need for them to embrace new technologies to create a more comprehensive environment for readers.
