Cloudburst in Samej Khad: 19 Reported Missing

Rampur, Aug 1, 2024 — A cloudburst occurred near the Samej Khad, close to a hydroelectric project in the Jhakhri area of Rampur, early Thursday morning. The District Disaster Management Authority received the information, prompting an immediate response.

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi have headed to the site. According to DC Anupam Kashyap, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and rescue squads are already en route. Initial reports indicate that 19 people are missing due to the cloudburst. SDM Rampur Nishant Tomar is also heading to the scene, navigating two kilometers on foot with equipment due to road blockages.

DC Anupam Kashyap stated that relief operations have commenced swiftly. The rescue operation includes teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Special Home Guards. All teams are working together cohesively, utilizing ambulances and other essential resources.

A committee has been formed under the leadership of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, including police, home guards, fire brigade, Sunni Dam management, and other departments, to coordinate the rescue efforts.
