Congress Hails Victory in Himachal By-Elections, Criticizes BJP’s Tactics

Shimla, July 13: State Congress Working President and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi expressed his joy over the Congress party’s significant victory in two out of three assembly by-elections in Himachal Pradesh. He thanked the voters for their support and affirmed that this triumph demonstrates the strong backing of the people for the Congress government.

Awasthi attributed the victory to the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, State Congress President Pratibha Singh, and the collective efforts of the party’s ministers, senior leaders, officials, and workers.

Awasthi criticized the BJP, stating that the party’s conspiracies have been completely exposed. He accused the BJP of imposing nine assembly by-elections on the state and suggested that the party should apologize to the people of Himachal Pradesh for this transgression.

He condemned the BJP’s former Chief Ministers, state presidents, and other leaders for their low-level politics and failed attempts to mislead the public during the elections. According to Awasthi, the by-election results have politically strengthened Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, increasing the number of Congress MLAs in the state assembly to 40.

Awasthi pointed out that the BJP state president, who once claimed to make Himachal a Congress-free state, now finds the BJP eliminated from all five assembly constituencies in his district of Solan. He emphasized the need for the BJP to introspect following these election results.

He highlighted the BJP’s failed attempts to destabilize the majority Congress government by trying to buy six Congress and three independent MLAs to field candidates in the by-elections. The defeat of three such candidates is a clear message from the people against the BJP’s political conspiracies.

Awasthi urged the BJP to cooperate with the state government and play a constructive role as the opposition. He also congratulated the newly elected MLAs and wished them well in their political careers.
