UGC Directs Higher Educational Institutions to Refund Fees for Transferred Students
1 min readShimla, March 10: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued directives to Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) regarding the refund of fees for students who have transferred to different institutions. The commission had initially requested institutions to permit a complete fee refund for students opting to select a new curriculum within a specified period.
According to the UGC, any violation of the fee refund policy would result in action against the Higher Education Institutions that breach the guidelines.
Under the guidelines periodically released by the commission, delay or denial in refunding fees to students opting to withdraw admissions within the stipulated time is deemed a violation. Notices have been issued after several complaints were received from students and parents regarding colleges and universities not refunding fees upon cancellation or withdrawal of admissions. The notification clarifies that these guidelines apply to all undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs proposed by universities.
Additionally, the UGC has requested institutions to address and resolve complaints received through emails and reminders, especially from students seeking the refund of fees paid to institutions after transferring from one college to another.
The move aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the higher education system, particularly concerning financial transactions between students and educational institutions.
