Shimla, March 1: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Himachal Pradesh State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehended Harish Kumar Sharma, a law officer from Dhami, for accepting a bribe of ₹37,000. The complaint, filed by Ramesh Chand, brought Sharma’s corrupt practices to light.

Chand, who had recently registered a land purchase of one acre in Up Tehsil Dhami on February 28, 2024, was coerced into paying a bribe of ₹50,000 by Sharma for the issuance of necessary documents related to the transaction. Sharma, allegedly demanding the bribe, used Google Pay to extract ₹13,000 initially from Chand’s son, Amit Sharma.

Following the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau set up a trap, capturing Sharma accepting the remaining bribe amount of ₹37,000. The spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau confirmed Sharma’s arrest and stated that legal proceedings, including a court appearance for remand, will follow.

Moreover, the Vigilance Bureau is contemplating further action, including a separate investigation into Sharma’s assets under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. The case has been registered under Section 7 at Shimla Police Station.

This incident underscores the commitment of the Himachal Pradesh Vigilance Bureau to combat corruption at all levels and bring the guilty to justice.
