High Drama Unfolds in Himachal Pradesh Assembly During Budget Session

2 min read

The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Wednesday morning during the ongoing Budget Session, as BJP legislators led by former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur staged a protest outside the assembly. The opposition members, including Thakur and other BJP lawmakers, displayed placards bearing the 10 guarantees promised by the Congress party, accusing the Sukhdev Singh Sukhu-led government of misleading the public.

The opposition leader, Jairam Thakur, and BJP legislators entered the assembly with symbolic props, holding the Congress’s 10 guarantees written on placards. This move was a part of their strategy to challenge the credibility of the government’s inaugural budget, alleging that the promises made in the budget were nothing more than a facade.

During the session, Thakur emphasized that the first budget of the Sukhdev Singh Sukhu government was a guarantee of deception, as none of the promised initiatives had materialized. He criticized the government for presenting a budget that echoed the assurances of the previous one and accused them of attempting to mislead the people of Himachal Pradesh with false budgets and figures.

Inside the assembly, chaos ensued as the opposition engaged in heated arguments with the ruling party, with both sides exchanging accusations. The contentious issue revolved around the opposition’s claims of the government’s failure to fulfill promises made in the budget.

On a different note, the budget session also witnessed discussions on various topics, including rural road metallization, job creation, and the allocation of funds to different sectors. Various legislators expressed their views on the budget, raising concerns and suggesting improvements.

While the BJP highlighted the need for increased focus on the metallization of rural roads and raised questions about the allocation of funds, Congress legislators defended the budget, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening the rural economy and creating job opportunities. The session also touched upon issues related to the agriculture sector, particularly concerns raised by legislators regarding the payment of dues to horticulturists.

The session saw a clash of opinions, with the opposition questioning the government’s sincerity in fulfilling budget promises and the ruling party defending its initiatives. The budget session is expected to continue with further deliberations and discussions on key issues affecting the state.
