Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. Marks 17th Foundation Day

Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL) celebrated its 17th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm. The HPPCL flag was hoisted at Reckong Peo by Sh. Shivam Pratap Singh, Director of Personnel at HPPCL. The main event took place at Police Ground, Reckong Peo, where the HPPCL oath was administered to all employees. Currently, HPPCL has two under-construction projects with a combined capacity of 580 MW in Kinnaur District.

During the celebration, it was highlighted that HPPCL made a significant contribution to the state by laying the foundation stone for the largest Solar Power Project of 32 MW at Pekhubella in Una District on December 2, 2023. Chief Minister Sh. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the project. The funding for harnessing 200 MW Solar Power has been secured from the World Bank, and the agreement was signed on November 6, 2023. Additionally, the construction of the 10 MW Aghlor Solar Power Project was also initiated on December 2, 2023.

Furthermore, the construction of AFD-funded projects in Chamba District, including the Chanju-III Hydro Electric Project (48 MW) and Deothal Chanju Hydro Electric Project (30 MW), has commenced. The French Development Agency (AFD) is providing funds of 80 Million Euro for these projects. The progress of the 450 MW Shongtong Karchham hydroelectric project and the 130 MW Kashang hydroelectric project was also discussed.

It was emphasized that the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs of the Government of India has approved funding of Rs. 6947 Crores for the Renukaji Dam Project. An amount of Rs. 1073 Crores has been distributed to the project-affected people, and the necessary land for Compulsory Afforestation has been identified.

HPPCL’s commissioned projects are operating smoothly and generating significant revenue for the state. Four projects, totaling 690 MW, including the 450 MW Shongtong Karcham Hydro Electric Project, 130 MW Kashang Stage-II and III, 48 MW Chanju-III Hydro Electric Project, and 32 MW Pekhubella Solar Power Project, are in the construction stage. DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for another four projects, totaling 272 MW, have been approved, and DPRs for ten projects, totaling 926 MW, are in the investigation stage.

Congratulating HPPCL employees on their 17th Foundation Day, it was urged that they continue working with dedication and utmost sincerity to complete the allotted projects within the specified timeframe.

A cultural function for employees and their families was organized at Police Ground, Reckong Peo, where cultural presentations by HPPCL employees and their children captivated the audience with Himachali folk songs and melodies. The winners of the 17th HPPCL Sports event were also felicitated during the celebration.

Various dignitaries, including Sh. Shashank Gupta, SDM Kalpa; Sh. Desh Raj, Director Electrical; Sh. Suresh Kumar, Commandant Home Guards; Sh. Khem Singh Thakur, General Manager Shongtong Karchham Hydro Electric Project; Sh. Mahender Kumar Kapoor, General Manager Kashang Hydro Electric Project; Sh. Nitin Garg, General Manager Corporate Planning; Sh. Rohit Sharda, General Manager Generation, and other officers and employees of HPPCL, as well as representatives of Project Affected Panchayats, were present at the event.
