CPI(M) Condemns Hamas-Israel Conflict, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

Shimla, Oct 20 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the ongoing hostilities and retaliatory actions between Hamas and Israel in Gaza. The party organized a demonstration outside its office in Shimla, demanding an immediate halt to this inhumane conflict.

As per the reports coming in over the past 14 days, approximately 4,900 people have lost their lives, and nearly 13,300 have been injured. In Gaza, 3,785 people have died, including 1,524 children and 120 elderly individuals. An additional 12,493 people have been wounded, with more than 4,000 of them being children. On Tuesday, October 17, more than 500 people lost their lives in a rocket attack on a Gaza hospital. The ongoing violence has further deteriorated the situation, and more casualties are expected.

The right-wing Israeli government is openly capturing Palestinian lands and is rapidly establishing Jewish settlements on the West Bank. This year, the ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of 248 Palestinians, including 40 children. Palestinian families from Jerusalem are being forcibly evicted. Gaza Strip, home to more than 2.3 million Palestinians, has been under severe blockade by Israel for the past 16 years, leading to air strikes whenever resistance is shown by the Palestinian people.

The party believes that the United Nations should ensure that the Palestinian people are granted their legitimate rights to their homeland and that all illegal Israeli settlements and occupations on Palestinian lands should be removed. It’s essential to work towards a two-state solution based on the United Nations Security Council’s proposals, ensuring that East Jerusalem becomes its capital.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) appeals to the United Nations, the international community, and the Indian government to intervene in stopping this conflict and implementing the UN Security Council’s proposals.
